Niagara Falls is one of the most majestic and breathtaking natural wonders in the world. It is situated on the Niagara River, which connects two of the five Great Lakes, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The falls are made up of three sections: Horseshoe Falls , American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. Horseshoe Falls is located on the Canadian side and has a height of over 173 feet (53 meters). The American and Bridal Veil falls both drop over 70 feet (21 meters) in height.
The falls are renowned for their beauty and grandeur which attract millions of tourists each year. There are a number of ways to experience the power of Niagara Falls including boat rides, helicopter tours, and walking along the boardwalk. The Niagara Gorge Discovery Center offers visitors an interactive way to explore the history of Niagara Falls through exhibits depicting its formation, geology, ecology, hydro-electric power production, and more. In addition to being able to view the powerful rush of water from nearby observation decks and platforms, visitors can also take a break from sightseeing by indulging in some retail therapy at neighboring shops or by dining at one of many restaurants that overlooks this amazing natural wonder.
The waterfall was formed during recent geological time as part of a series of geological processes that created an escarpment boundary between two major landforms—the Niagara Escarpment on the north side and Lake Ontario’s lowlands on the south side. This process began about 12000 years ago when melting glaciers resulted in higher water levels throughout North America. As these waters increased they cut into limestone rock formations creating a deep gorge as well as depositing sediment at its bottom thus forming what we now know as Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls is also home to numerous plants such as white cedars, silver maples, willows, red oaks, paper birches, ash trees, hickory trees plus hundreds more species making them one of Canada's last remaining old-growth forests. Additionally there’s wildlife such as deer mice grey squirrels coyotes foxes muskrats beaver porcupines raccoons opossums skunks snakes frogs turtles salamanders wild turkeys pheasants ducks black bears bald eagles turkey vultures hawks owls bats monarch butterflies etc..
Visiting Niagara Falls will be an experience you never forget! There are activities perfect for all ages from thrill seekers looking for adventure to those wanting a tranquil stroll along nature trails while taking in views unlike any other - it's truly something special!
