The Andrew Low House in Tybee Island, Georgia is a stunning example of the Antebellum Greek Revival Style of architecture. Built by Andrew Low, a cotton broker and commission merchant, in 1848-1849, the house was designed to impress with its grandeur and size. It stands out among the other buildings on Tybee Island with its intricate design featuring four Ancient Greek Corinthian columns, large balconies on both stories and a grand pediment above the front door. Inside, there are 10 rooms throughout two floors and an attic surrounded by original 19th-century furniture. The house has been preserved over time as it was originally built under the guidance of Andrew Low's wife Sarah Ann Low during her lifetime and later passed through their family for generations. In 1966 it became part of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) inventory which has enabled The Andrew Low House to be featured in several books about Southern architecture from 1800-1860. The house still stands as one of the most impressive structures on Tybee Island with its unique architectural style that blends together elements from both Georgian classicism and Greek Revivalism. Today visitors can take guided tours to learn more about this breathtaking building and discover what life was like during this period in American history.
