Pinkerton Hot Springs, located in Telluride, Colorado, is a historic hot spring and popular tourist destination. The pink-hued waters of the springs occur naturally due to high levels of iron oxide, giving them their unique color. Visitors can soak in the hot springs’ therapeutic and healing waters, which are reported to relieve everything from stress and fatigue to arthritis and skin conditions.
The property also includes an array of cabins and campsites available for overnight stays. Surrounding the springs is a meadow with stunning views of the San Juan Mountains, providing a perfect backdrop for outdoor activities like fishing and hiking. With its convenient location near downtown Telluride, visitors also have easy access to various shopping and dining options.
The history of Pinkerton Hot Springs dates back to before Colorado became a state. In 1875, George Pinkerton purchased the land that now makes up the property. After discovering the hot springs that were already on the property, he built a bathhouse where he offered therapeutic mineral baths at fairly low cost. In 1890, Pinkerton sold his property to William McLaughlin who continued offering therapeutic baths until around World War I when people began using swimming pools instead. Eventually, they reopened again in 1936 as “McLaughlin Mineral Baths” but closed once again during World War II until it changed hands again in 1945 and became known as Pinkerton Hot Springs Resort & Spa.
Today this magnificent property still attracts visitors from all over looking for relaxation or adventure among its scenic surroundings. Not only does it offer soaking pools and other amenities like massages and yoga classes but it also has many fun things to do like hiking trails along Lake Irwin Creek or exploring old mining ruins from the gold rush days in nearby towns like Ouray or Silverton. It's no wonder why Pinkerton Hot Springs has been such a popular destination for centuries!
