Faver-Dykes State Park is located 10 miles south of St. Augustine and 5 miles east of I-95 on State Road 206. The park offers visitors a chance to experience the Florida wilderness with hiking, fishing, canoeing, and picnicking opportunities.
The park’s name comes from the two creeks that run through it, Faver and Dykes. These creeks are part of the St. Johns River system and are popular with anglers who come to fish for bass, bream, and catfish. Canoeists can put in at the boat ramp on Faver Creek and paddle upstream for about 3 miles before the creek becomes too shallow to navigate.
There are four different hiking trails in the park that wind through a variety of ecosystems including sandhills, scrub oak thickets, and palm hammocks. The longest trail is the 3-mile Oak Loop Trail which passes by several large oak trees that are over 500 years old.
Whether you’re looking to experience nature or just want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Faver-Dykes State Park is the perfect place to do it.
