Bamahenge, located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is a remarkable three-quarter size replica of the iconic Stonehenge located in England. The structure was created by local artist Mark Cline and stands over five feet tall and 47 feet wide. It is composed of 28 large fiberglass structures that resemble limestone blocks and were painted to look like sandstone by airbrushing techniques. Bamahenge was completed in 2014 and quickly became a popular tourist destination for those who visit Alabama's Gulf Coast.
Visiting Bamahenge is an unforgettable experience for tourists. The enormous replicas of stones create an impressive effect as they sit atop a grassy hill with ocean views as far as the eye can see. To make it even more interesting, some sections of Bamahenge are illuminated during nighttime hours to create a magical ambiance of glowing light. Though it may not be as ancient or mysterious as its English counterpart, the monument still draws curious visitors from all around the world.
The design of Bamahenge is incredibly detailed and precise; each piece has been individually hand-painted with natural colors to recreate the sandstone look similar to that of Stonehenge’s original stones. Cline researched extensively on how to best replicate the stones' shapes and size while also making sure they would stand up to strong winds common in this coastal area; this was done by constructing them out of lightweight but sturdy fiberglass materials.
The site can be visited free of charge at any time during daytime hours; however, many visitors find that viewing it at night when it's lit up truly enhances their experience. A variety of festivals take place at Bamahenge throughout the year including music events and firework shows which draw big crowds into Gulf Shores for an unforgettable experience only found here!
