Glendale Ballpark is a baseball stadium located in Glendale, Arizona. The ballpark is the home of the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). The stadium has a capacity of 56,000 people and opened on April 10, 2009.
The ballpark was designed by HOK Sport (now Populous) and cost $365 million to build. It was the first MLB stadium to have a retractable roof. The roof consists of two panels that open and close like a camera shutter. The panels are each 330 feet (100 m) long and weigh 3,000 tons.
The ballpark is located on 140 acres (0.57 km2) of land in the West Valley area of Glendale. The site was formerly occupied by farmland and desert vegetation. The ballpark is situated between Loop 101 and Camelback Road, with easy access to both Phoenix and Glendale.
The exterior of the ballpark is made of red brick and sandstone, with desert landscaping around the perimeter. The main entrance features a 90-foot (27 m) high archway that pays tribute to Dodger Stadium's signature arches. There are also replicas of Dodger Stadium's scoreboards in left field and right field.
The interior of the ballpark features natural grass, an infield dirt area, and a warning track made of crushed seashells from Mexico. The seating bowl has a traditional design, with most of the seats located between the foul poles. There
