Galveston

During its heyday, Galveston has nicknamed "The Free State of Galveston" for good reason. Located just a ferry ride away from the rest of Texas, it quickly gained its reputation as a hub for lawbreakers and rogues from all sorts of backgrounds. The island's colorful nightlife included gambling dens and legal vices left bustling with commerce up until the 1950s when it was shut down by state officials. More recently, its long history of illegal activity has given way to a more subdued tourism industry centered around its historic sites and local beaches.

Today, Galveston is a destination known globally for its unique culture and renowned coastline. With its mild climate, rich culture, and convenient location along the Gulf of Mexico, it's no wonder that so many people flock to this coastal city each year.
