Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon in Folly Beach, SC is an historic site with a memorable tale. The Old Exchange Building was erected in 1771 as the Charleston Customs House and is the oldest public building in South Carolina. It served other purposes, from maritime court and post office to guild hall and exchange over the years until it became part of the American Revolution where British Soldiers were held captive within its walls. Today, visitors can explore the Old Exchange's four stories as well as the Old Provost Dungeon from outside its gates. With much of its original charm still intact this building's legacy will forever remain as an integral part of South Carolina's history for generations to come.
