: Location was great. The room was quiet.
: The AC did not cool. the outside temp was in the 50's at night and high 70's during the day. When we arrived the AC temp was 73F, sometime at night, the AC temp was 74F, and when we left it was 73F. Our room window opened to the fire escape so we did not open. When we checked out we noticed that many of the room windows were open for cooling.This wasn't a huge problem but if it were summer, it could have been far more uncomfortable.

: Location, the overall athmosphere of the hotel and the rooms.
: As we entered the room it reeked of stale cigarette smoke! The Strater is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. The AC was lowered to a freezing 62°, but this doesn't remedy the smell. It just makes the room unpleasantly cold. We tried opening the window but that wasn't a solution either, because of the cooking smells of the restaurants below. The room wasn't spotlessly clean: I found a bunch of long hairs in the shower and the headboard sprinkled with a lot of white droplets I don't even want to think what they were.... Just gross. I'm glad that I always carry some wet- wipes with me. But it isn't the job of the host to clean the room.The bed was uncomfortable, much too soft and bumpy.Overall I'm glad we just stayed one night.
